Advanced Nurse Practitioners
Janice Mercer-Edwards RGN, Dip.n, BSc (hons)
The practice has a part time Advanced Nurse Practitioner who works alongside the doctors and provides ‘on the day’ appointments for patients who ask to be seen quickly.
Our Advanced nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has completed both advanced university study at Masters level and extensive clinical training to expand on the usual role of a registered nurse.
With advanced knowledge, expertise and education, nurse practitioners are able to perform advanced physical assessment, order diagnostic tests and interpret the results of those tests, determine the best form of treatment and prescribe medications and other therapies if needed.
Janice has skills in minor illnesses such as acute cough and chest infections, earache, urinary infections, sore throats, rashes as well as speciality areas that they have specifically trained in. This service was first introduced in April 2005 and doctors time is directed to deal with more complicated conditions.
Generally speaking Janice can do most of what a GP does for ‘on the day’ requests and if she feels you need urgent referral to a doctor you will not be expected to make another appointment.
